Lifelong eating habits start in childhood
so let's get kids off to a great start with snacks that are nutritious and taste great too!
Variety
- Offer a variety of fruits and veggies. Every so often introduce a more exotic choice for them to try.
- Together with your kids select from a variety of fruits and veggies. To engage kids and get them to try new things discuss where the foods grow and how you eat them.
- To make fruits more appealing, make a dip of honey and non-fat yogurt. For veggies, hummus dip and whole-wheat pita is a good snack.
- Fruits and veggies in season are best but don't forget Food Lion brand frozen foods.
- Many frozen fruits have Guiding Stars and are great right out of the bag or in smoothies.
Ease
- Bagged baby carrots and snap peas, grapes (try freezing them), raisins, nuts (beware of any nut allergies), unsweetened applesauce and crackers with a Guiding Star all make easy, fun snacks.
- Colorful fruit kabobs or strawberries dipped in a little chocolate.
- Let kids make their own smoothies with their favorite fruit blended with non-fat vanilla yogurt.
