Pharmacy FAQs

What should I know about a new prescription from my doctor?

  • Why you have been prescribed this medicine and what you can expect from taking it?
  • Is there a chance it might conflict with any other medicine you are currently taking or with any allergies you might have?
  • Be sure to ask your Food Lion pharmacist these and other questions you may have when getting a new prescription filled.

Why does it sometimes take a while to fill a prescription?

  • While you may not see customers waiting in the pharmacy area, prescriptions often are called in or dropped off for pickup later. Other customers also may be shopping for groceries, while their prescriptions are fill.
  • To do a quality job, the pharmacist must take time to review your patient profile and provide time to answer any questions you may have.
  • When concerned about time, always ask your Food Lion Pharmacist how long it's likely to take to serve you.

Why can medication costs increase from month to month?

  • As with other types of products, prescription prices do change. Primarily this occurs through adjustments by the manufacturer/drug company.
  • Food Lion works to keep its prices on prescription and over-the-counter medications as low as possible.

Why are some drugs not available as a generic?

  • Each new drug that comes to market has a patent protection for up to 17 years. Until that patent period expires, a generic is not available.
