Grilling season is a great time to experiment with different burger preparations and toppings. We love this unique, luau-inspired set up with savory homemade teriyaki sauce, cooling coleslaw and tropical pineapple. Adding fresh minced ginger and garlic to the burger patties is a small step that results in big flavors — and ties the whole dish together!

Select ingredients:

  1. Mix together the coleslaw and pineapple. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Whisk together the soy sauce, water, cornstarch and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Mix together the ground beef, garlic, ginger, salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Form 4 equal patties.
  5. Grill the burgers for 6 minutes and flip. Grill an additional 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Place the burgers on the bottom half of each bun. Spread the teriyaki sauce on top of each burger. Top with the coleslaw mixture and bun top. Enjoy immediately.

Recipe Tip: Teriyaki sauce will thicken as it cools. If it becomes too thick, thin it with a tablespoon of warm water.
